Monica’s Story:

MONICA ALVANO is a yoga teacher, holistic bodyworker and facilitator of inner work through the body-mind-spirit connection.

She first took a chance on yoga by accompanying her college roommate to a class at the gym, and immediately knew it was something special. It was upon taking her first Dharma Yoga class that the benefits of yoga multiplied exponentially. Her spiritual quest took off, and ever since has been a devoted student and practitioner of classical Yoga as it applies to our modern world.

Upon the urging of her first teachers in Washington, DC, Monica has studied deeply with Sri Dharma Mittra of New York for over 15 years. Sri Dharma Mittra has been disseminating the teachings of Classical Hatha-Raja Yoga since the 1970s and is world-renowned for his famous poster of 908 yoga postures. Monica has received thousands of hours of training and practice with Sri Dharma Mittra and continues to honor his lineage while constantly “updating” it, as he would say, to suit our contemporary lives.

Monica is also a massage therapist, Meridian Yoga Therapy practitioner, and intuitive guide. Trained under the Cayce/Reilly School of Massage, her approach to holistic bodywork focuses on balancing the nervous system and improving the coordination of all systems of the body to foster harmony and well-being in body, mind and spirit. Meridian Yoga Therapy, as taught by Rose Erin Vaughan, MSAc of Science of Self Yoga, is a unique method of working one-on-one that combines the wisdom of traditional yoga practices with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Monica believes in moving the way love makes you move, and that work on one’s self cannot be done alone.

— that it is not only possible but also essential that we grow to live vibrant, radiant, healthy and harmonious lives.
